Semantic Sicily is a project lead by P.M.F. involving 23 Sicilian SMEs supported by EU regional funds from PO FESR 2007?2013 Sicily, under the Operational Objective 5.1.1. “Support the development and strengthening of industrial districts and SMEs groups and implement common services to overcome relational deficit of SMEs”. The partnership is developing research in the field of the Semantic Web for a growing number of types of information.

The technological platform that is used in the project is based on modern techniques of Cloud Computing. The applications do not run locally, but in a data centre shared between the project partners. The objective of the project is to develop a Semantic Core platform, shared by all of the partners, distributed on Cloud Computing hardware. The Semantic Core is used as starting point for development of vertical application across a wide range of business sectors. These applications include e?learning, Semantic document management, Semantic Network, Voice recognition and text mining, real-time translation, Reverse Engineering, Semantic Web Gis, ERP, etc.
